Hearing Dogs for Deaf People New Zealand is an independent charitable trust that assesses, selects, trains and places specially trained Hearing Dogs to internationally recognised standards with deaf and severely hearing impaired New Zealanders. We receive no government funding and make no charge to the deaf person receiving the dog, but seek support from individuals, groups and organisations to help train and place these wonderful, portable 'hearing aids'!
How you can help make a difference:
We rely entirely on the generosity of individuals and groups to support our work. We willingly accept donations. Keep your receipt - donations of $5.00 and over are tax-deductible! All donations are receipted where a return address is supplied.

Become a Friend of Hearing Dogs
For those interested in supporting us but who are not sure about becoming a co-sponsor or a registered speaker becoming a Friend of Hearing Dogs is ideal ! Friends of Hearings Dogs help raise awareness of the role and value of Hearing Dogs and in return, on becoming a Friend receive a certificate stating they are a Friend, several small Hearing Dogs gift items and the satisfaction of knowing they are helping us make a difference. Friends often help with awareness and fundraising activities. A membership fee is NOT charged but a donation on becoming a Friend and an annual donation thereafter is welcomed.

A little goes a long way and becoming a co-sponsor is one of the most effective ways of supporting our work financially on an ongoing basis. Co-sponsors decide an amount they wish to donate on a monthly basis for a period of time. This donation is then credited from the co-sponsors bank account to our bank account direct by electronic bank transfer or credit card. Co-sponsor funds help provide food, equipment and training to hearing dogs being socialised and trained. Several co-sponsors can contribute to the training costs of one or more dogs. All co-sponsors receive a certificate and photograph of the dog(s) they are sponsoring and are regularly updated of the dog's progress.

  Become a Registered Speaker
We are frequently asked to give short presentations to service groups, clubs and other gatherings; however, we have limited people trained to undertake such engagements. If you wish to be considered as a possible speaker, we will endeavour to provide appropriate training and resources to enable you to undertake such engagements once approved by us. Speakers provide their services on a voluntary basis, free of charge.

It costs approximately $13,500 to sponsor a hearing dog. This is an ideal opportunity for a group such as a service group or friendship club to support our work by raising sufficient funds to train a dog. The opportunity to name the dog selected applies in this case.

  Become a Hearing Dog Socialiser
It may be necessary for us to 'socialise' a pup or young dog before it starts its training as a Hearing Dog. Socialisers look after the dog and provide basic obedience training, general socialisation and human contact to guidelines supplied by the Trust. Socialisers also reinforce obedience and sound training carried out by the Trust whilst the dog is in their care. All Socialisers provide their services on a voluntary basis, free of charge.

Leave a Legacy / make a bequest to Hearing Dogs in your Will
Making provision for Hearing Dogs in your will is a wonderful way of supporting us in the future. We hope you will be around for many, many years yet of course! We have a suggested wording for a codicil (amendment / addendum) to add to your existing will or to include in your will if you're drawing this up for the first time.

  Undertake a fundraising activity
There are many possibilities to help raise funds, some of which are organised and undertaken by us, others undertaken and organised independently. If you do wish to undertake a fundraising activity on our behalf, please let us know so that we can guide and advise you of possible legal implications, provide support materials where appropriate and work with you as required. Participation in fundraising activities is undertaken on a voluntary basis, free of charge.

  Provide 'in-kind' support
If you are able to support our work in a non-financial way you will be providing 'in-kind' support. Do you have a spare fax machine, for example, that you are no longer using, or stationery items or petrol vouchers you can pass on to us? Is your business able to provide goods or services at cost or free of charge? Every little helps - be it cash or 'in-kind'!
Spread the word...let others know of our work
If you or someone you know would like us to make a presentation to a group of people let us know and we'd be delighted to help if possible. Or, if you know of someone who may be interested in receiving a Hearing Dog, feel free to pass our details on.
